The Poem!

Invertebrates are animals with no backbone at all.

It stops them standing straight but doesn’t mean that they’re all small!

There are three groups that I’ll describe, each one you must know.

I’ll try to keep it interesting, tell me if it’s too slow.

Insects

Firstly there’s the insect, and upon six legs he sits.

Another way to know him – his body’s in three bits!

There's lice and ants and dragonflies, wasps and moths and fleas,

Or bedbugs, beetles, bluebottles, butterflies and bees.

Arachnids

If you take arachnids and count their legs there’s eight.

(Feel free to check this quickly. Don’t worry, I can wait!).

Arachnid’s bodies have two parts (just one would not be ample).

Spiders, ticks and scorpions are just a few examples.

Molluscs

Molluscs are the final group that I must quickly mention.

They only have one slimy foot (so bikes just aren’t an option!)

Some lucky molluscs feel protected because they have a shell.

Garden snails have them, and shellfish do as well.
